Welcome to the fourth week of Lent Illustrated: Reflection and Renewal! The following prompt is an excerpted and abbreviated version of the prompt found in the eBook. If you would like to download the Lent Illustrated eBook, please visit the download page! Today we continue our Return unit.
Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
(2 Corinthians 4:16)
Context and prompt:
You may choose to journal either or both of these verses today. For the first, you could take the verse in a literal direction by illustrating a treasure chest in heaven, overflowing with riches or blessings such as the fruits of the spirit. These could be represented by words or pictures. For 2 Corinthians 4:16, consider what it would look like for your inner self to be “renewed” even as the outer self ages. Maybe a vibrant heart or spirit within a person, or a young body rising out of a physical self that is fading away. Explore the idea and experiment on the page!
