Today is the beginning of our final Lent Illustrated unit, Rejoice. In this final unit of our Lenten Bible study, we will focus on love, reflecting on God’s sacrificial love for us during the difficult days of Holy Week, and celebrating divine love and grace for Easter Sunday. He walked alongside us, gave up for us, and redeemed us from the darkest of places — for God so loved the world.

Verses:

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

(John 15:12-13)

[H]e saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.

(Titus 3:5)

If you would like to download the Lent Illustrated eBook, please visit the download page! This is the second week of our Reflect unit.

Verses:

Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning… You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

(Psalm 30-4:12)

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

(Psalm 103:2-5)

Today is the beginning of our third Lent Illustrated unit. This portion of our Lenten study about prayer is called Reflect. We will use this time to reflect on our lives, on our God, and on our faith, through prayer and journaling.

Verses:

Hear my cry, O God, listen to my prayer; from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint. Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy. Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! For you, O God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.

(Psalm 61:1-5)

[B]ut they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

(Isaiah 40:31)

Verses:

Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.  Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

(Luke 12:32-34)

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

(2 Corinthians 4:16)
